Authorities of the Californian city San Francisco have made a decision to cancel traditional national Halloween open air celebrations in Castro district. According to the edition, authorities have made this decision for the sake of people’s safety. During last years in Castro where the most mass national processions in San Francisco passed, cases of violence have become more frequent. In particular, in 2002 five persons have received stab and slash, incision wounds, in 2004 a man with a chain saw was walking in crowd, and in 2006 nine persons have been shot in a street fight.
Instead of coming to Castro district, police have advised people to remain
for the holiday at home or to go to other districts of the city. Those who
will not follow advice, will have to collide with the strengthened police
patrol, the closed restaurants and bars, breath analyzers and absence of a
municipal transportation after 8:30 p.m.
